چکیده

In this paper, genus statistics have been applied to an HI column density map of the Small Magellanic Cloud in order to study its topology. At the smallest scales studied (26 pc ≤ λ ≤ 75 pc) the genus shift is negative, implying a clump topology. At medium scales (75 pc ≤ λ ≤ 125 pc) the topology shifts to a neutral/slightly positive value, indicating a tendency towards a swiss-cheese/hole topology. At large scales (λ ≥ 125 pc) the genus shift varies from region to region but overall tends to return to a slight negative value, consistent with a minor clump topology at the largest scales explored. Other regions with varying areas still show this slight clump topology at low smoothing radii and trend towards a zero shift at higher smoothing radii. Only two of the 62 regions show a significant positive shift, indicating that a hole topology at small scales within the SMC is rare. Topology of HI Gas Distribution in the Large Magellanic Cloud

We have analyzed the H I aperture synthesis image of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), using an objective and quantitative measure of topology to understand the H I distribution hosting a number of holes and clumps of various sizes in the medium. The H I distribution shows different topology at four different chosen scales. At the smallest scales explored (19 ∼ 29 pc), the H I mass is distribut...

Detection of carbon monoxide within the Magellanic Bridge

The Mopra 22-m and SEST 15-m telescopes have been used to detect and partially map a region of 12CO(1-0) line emission within the Magellanic Bridge, a region lying between the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC, respectively). The emission appears to be embedded in a cloud of neutral hydrogen, and is in the vicinity of an IRAS source. The CO emission region is found to have a 60 μm/...

What Is the Behavior of the Ism in the Smc?

We describe quantitatively the neutral hydrogen (HI) and dust content of the interstellar medium (ISM) in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), using the spatial power spectrum. The velocity modification of the HI density power spectrum is investigated and discussed.

High-resolution HI observations of the Western Magellanic Bridge

The 21-cm line emission from a 7 × 6 deg2 region east of and adjoining the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) has been observed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Parkes telescopes. This region represents the westernmost part of the Magellanic Bridge, a gas-rich tail extending ∼14° to the Large Magellanic Cloud. A rich and complex neutral hydrogen (H i) structure containing shells, bu...
